Lawnmowers - Which One Suits your Garden Needs?

Hot Tip! Represent the space element by an open area in the middle of you garden. It can either be a patio or grass.

A lawnmower is one of those things that everyone has, and yet it’s still really difficult to choose the right one. There are hundreds - thousands even - of different lawnmowers out there to choose from, and it’s difficult to know which to get unless you have some basic grounding in what you’re looking for.

The first decision you have to make is whether you want a petrol mower, an electric mower or a mower that is powered only by you pushing it.

While push mowers are doubtless the cheapest and most environmentally friendly (not to mention the quietest!), it can be strenuous to push them well enough to cut all the grass, and will be completely impractical for you if you have a large garden that needs to be cut.

Petrol lawnmowers are more powerful, but at the same time more troublesome. They need a fuel supply, which can be expensive as well as dangerous to store, and they also often use difficult pull-string starting mechanisms.

Hot Tip! Know what you want to get rid of/or disguise in your garden – eg, that ugly rear fence needs cloaking or finally ridding yourself of that terrible shed, which blocks all your light.

Electric lawnmowers, on the other hand, are just as powerful as petrol ones, but don’t need the fuel and can be started easily. The main downside of electric mowers is that they need a power cord to be plugged into them, and this can be a safety hazard if you accidentally cut through it with the mower’s blades. There are rechargeable cordless mowers, but they tend to be more expensive and will not run for a very long time.

If your garden is big enough, you could even try a ride-on mower. These are exactly what they sound like, big lawn mowers that you ride on. They are generally petrol-powered, and expensive. However, there’s no denying that they get the grass cut very quickly, and they’re fun to ride, too.

Hot Tip! Understand what you want. For example a garden for a holiday house would be totally different for your normal home.

Overall, what you choose will depend on the size of your garden, how much you want to spend and which features are important to you. For most people, an electric lawnmower will probably have the best balance of features.

The Bedroom Refuge

Hot Tip! Guest Bedroom Essentials - Part of offering great hospitality is to make your guest bedroom feel completely welcoming. On the night stand, have a spate of new magazines along with a water glass and a decorative bowl filled with candy.

Is your bedroom a haven — a sanctuary where you can rest and rejuvenate? If not, here are some suggestions for making your bedroom into the room that provides peace of mind along with bodily comfort.

Your bedroom reflects who you are. So the first question is, how do you see yourself? Imagine yourself in different settings. Does traditional furniture — classic Queen Anne, Chippendale, 18th and 19th century European antique styles — give you a feeling of stability and continuity? A canopy or sleigh bed in rich cherry or mahogany, with Pachabel playing on the stereo hidden in your carved armoire, may be the perfect romantic touch you’ve been seeking.

Perhaps the setting that makes you feel warm and cozy comes from country furniture — the rough-hewn rustic look or the distressed finishes of cottage styles. Homey fabrics, like chintz, linen or denim, and accessories like handmade quilts, needlework pillows, rag rugs, and framed watercolors with outdoor themes may support your vision of the perfect place to relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Hot Tip! Contemporary Bedroom Design Ideas - To accomplish the popular contemporary design, try neutrals with nice accent colors, such as a muted navy. The idea is to stay crisp and clean.

The casual contemporary look leans towards light glowing woods like maple or dramatic pieces in dark stains like espresso. Clean lines on popular styles, such as Mission furniture, make for a sophisticated yet warm space. Japanese prints on the wall and flower arrangements in colored glass vases may make this your favorite room in the house.

One step beyond contemporary is the look of modern furniture for those who love the linear design of retro, Art Deco, or an eclectic mix of styles. Fabrics are simple, and leather pieces work well. A lacquered platform bed and low sleek pieces can mix well with bold colors and richly patterned rugs or bedding, or show off a collection of black-and-white photographs on the wall.

Whatever style calls your name, ambient lighting in a bedroom enhances the mood. Put a dimmer switch on the main light in the room, or think about lamps that goes on and off to a clap of your hands. Have at least one bright light if you have a “work” corner in the bedroom that hosts a computer or project table, and a good reading light near your armchair or by the bed if you like to read in bed.

Hot Tip! Tray of Delights. Bring in a wine and cheese tray with some fresh fruit, dim the lights, and you’re on your way to a lovely and romantic stay in your very own Bed & Breakfast Inn bedroom.

To keep the peaceful atmosphere of the bedroom, hide TVs or computers in an armoire so they’re not in view except when being used. Scented candles, fresh flowers, and a beautiful decanter to hold your drinking water are wonderful touches for any bedroom.

The most important part of the bedroom is often ignored for too long. Is your mattress the right one for your back and for deep healthy sleep? Upgrade to a new pillowtop or possibly a larger size mattress for the ultimate in bedroom comfort.

And if your bedroom haven is just too wonderful to leave in the morning, how about installing a “morning bar” with a coffee maker and small refrigerator? Breakfast in bed, anyone?

Hot Tip! Be polite and extend the same courtesy to your contractor that you would extend to anyone else. Your home improvement contractor is not your servant (not that you should disrespect your servant either)! The point is that your behavior can affect the way that your contractor behaves toward you.

If some one asks me the first thing that I would like to change or improve upon given an opportunity. The answer without second thought would be my home. Why? Pool Waterfalls

Hot Tip! The backwash discharge from an Copper Ionization treated pool is safe for use on lawns and in gardens since it does not contain any salt or sodium. Backwash from pools treated with salt water systems can kill plant life, sterilize soil preventing plant growth and is prohibited in many municipalities in the United States and Australia (where salt water systems were invented).

A large number of swimming pools now have waterfalls on their edges in order to increase their visual appeal. The waterfalls are constructed so that their water falls into the swimming pool, thus creating a continuous water effect with the pool. Small submersible bulbs are placed strategically at the point where the water just hits the pool, to give a glittering effect. Colored bulbs can also provide different hues to the waterfall.

Pool waterfalls are differently designed from other waterfalls. Here the water does not flow through a cascading slope, but it creates a neat arc as it falls. The entire mechanism of the waterfall is hidden in a concrete structure, which forms one wall of the swimming pool. This wall is generally tiled with the same tiles that are used for the rest of the swimming pool. The waterfalls can be designed to have different levels, or there may be different arcs at different heights. Water may also be made to spurt as a fountain from a point in the center of the pool.

Hot Tip! If possible find a broker with experience in home improvement loans and swimming pool financing. A bank equity loan is not the same as a this type of loan and will almost certainly cost you more.

Swimming pools with waterfalls are generally considered to be a status symbol. They are primarily found in big hotels and resorts. People with big mansions also opt for waterfalls around their pools. Even water attraction spots have pool waterfalls. Pool waterfalls are great attractions for children, who like to play in the water splashing over their heads. In such water parks, the outlet of water can be designed to be the face of some popular cartoon character or any other such creative idea. A single swimming pool can have several waterfalls, depending on its size.

But nowadays, private swimming-pool waterfalls are becoming increasingly affordable and popular. Small pools also are constructing small waterfalls around their pool walls. These do not produce wide arcs, but create a splashing effect.

The basic requirement for a pool waterfall is definitely the swimming pool. The ideal way is to construct the waterfall when the swimming pool is being built, so that it can be made continuous and hidden within the pool. Swimming pool waterfalls must have absolutely clean water, as people would be swimming in it. The tank of the waterfall must be repeatedly cleaned and treated; otherwise, it would harbor algae and moss.

Hot Tip! Salt water pool systems will use an average of 500 watts of AC power for a 20,000 gallon pool. Copper Ionization systems will use an average of only 40 watts of DC power to treat the same amount of water.

Some swimming pools allow warm water to flow through the waterfalls. There are health professionals who believe in the curative powers of flowing hot water. These waterfalls are more for the health benefits than aesthetic appeal. Water is made to flow through thinner and stronger jets from a wall in the swimming pool.

A pool waterfall may cost several thousands of dollars. Constructing the waterfall along with the pool greatly reduces the cost of the waterfall. Hence, pre-planning is important.

Waterfalls provides detailed information about waterfalls, indoor waterfalls, waterfall gardens, waterfall ponds and more. Waterfalls is the sister site of Preformed Pond Liners.

Living Room Furniture - Yes, It’s Where We Live

Hot Tip! Are you looking for a bar fight, if not, don’t make your living room a pub. One of the most common living rooms decorating no no’s is the pub like nature of some living rooms, trying to go for the playful theme.

In the last article we went over office furniture. In this articles we’re going to cover furniture that’s a little more near and dear to our hearts. The furniture in our homes. More specifically we’re going to cover the living room in this article since it is usually the main room in everyone’s home.

For every room in our home there is furniture to go in it, maybe too much furniture. Then it comes time to move, and unless you hire a professional moving company, you are in for a world of hurt. But moving is not the point of this article.

Hot Tip! Window curtains can make all the difference in the world. They can truly become the main focal point of the living room.

Probably more marketing is spent on furniture for your living room or recreation room, as some people call it, than for any other room in your house. Why? Probably because we spend more time there than in any other room in our home. For starters, the living room is where the majority of TVs and entertainment centers are located. Living rooms are also usually the largest rooms in our home. So there’s lots of furniture made to go in it. Just about every living room in the world has a coffee table in it. Why they call it a coffee table is actually rather strange because ultimately what ends up on the table is everything but coffee. This is where most people throw their mail, magazines, and an assortment of little knickknacks. Coffee tables for the most part are rectangular and made of a variety of materials such as metal, marble, wood and even glass.

Hot Tip! If you do not have a mantel they are fairly easy to install in your living room, and are available in many different sizes.

Usually to compliment the coffee table are a couple of end tables. For the most part these are used to place lamps so that you’re able to see what’s on the coffee table. End tables are also made of the same materials as your coffee table and are generally bought in sets.

Then of course there’s the places in your living room where you sit. A typical living room will have a couch or sofa, maybe even a hide-a-bed like a Castro Convertible which is a couch that turns into a bed. In addition to the couch you’ll have two or more chairs. Depending on how large your living room is you may have enough chairs to seat the starting line up for the New York Yankees baseball team.

To compliment all of the above the finishing touches are usually in the form of some kind of entertainment center. These can be bought ready made but many you need to put together yourself. These centers are used to put your TV, stereo, DVD player and whatever else you may have for entertainment purposes. With the creation of some very large TV screens some of these centers can take up half your living room.

Hot Tip! The furniture you place in the living room depends on the size of the living room. It is only when you have the exact measurement of the room that you can decide what size of sofa and other living-room furniture is best suitable for your living room.

Some other things you might find around the living room are floor lamps, bookcases and various kinds of cabinets and storage furniture.

In the last article of this series we’re going to cover the bedroom, kitchen and dining room. The rooms are smaller so there’s not as much to throw in them.

Thank goodness.
